System Administrator Appreciation Day

A sysadmin unpacked the server for this website from its box, installed an operating system, patched it for security, made sure the power and air conditioning was working in the server room, monitored it for stability, set up the software, and kept backups in case anything went wrong. All to serve this webpage.

A sysadmin installed the routers, laid the cables, configured the networks, set up the firewalls, and watched and guided the traffic for each hop of the network that runs over copper, fiber optic glass, and even the air itself to bring the Internet to your computer. All to make sure the webpage found its way from the server to your computer.

A sysadmin makes sure your network connection is safe, secure, open, and working. A sysadmin makes sure your computer is working in a healthy way on a healthy network. A sysadmin takes backups to guard against disaster both human and otherwise, holds the gates against security threats and crackers, and keeps the printers going no matter how many copies of the tax code someone from Accounting prints out.

Terry Tate: My Debut

An introduction to Terry’s world. He slams into Paul Merkin after his failure to refill the coffee after he’s used it, and then Ron Felcher gives a brief description about how the productivity in the office has soared after Terry’s arrival from Reebok. Terry then puts more office workers in their places, for various offenses such as failing to recycle an aluminum can, failing to put a cover sheet on a TPS report, and drinking coffee while not on a break. His friendly side is also shown, as he gives a co-worker a cake on their birthday. Near the end of the episode, Terry himself is the victim of an injury after being hit with a mail cart, but he returns to work swiftly in order to keep everyone in line once again.

Gone for a week

I will be gone for about a week or so. During this time there will be no fixing or adding of more content until I come home again.

Status sofar is about 30% done with the website. Most of the backend is done, some things just need a little more tweaking. Blog and comments are almost done as well, just need to fix some broken image links.

The biggest part left is mostly just to add static content into the database, this takes time since I want it to be done properly and nicely.

Anyways, see ya in a week or so!

Max Payne Movie Trailer

Max Payne is really a the one PC video game which changed the way gaming was looked upon, it made into a heroic action sequences like Bullet time combo which was since then used all over in movies like MATRIX and many more movies and games alike is now going to be turned into a movie itself.
The story revolves around a cop who’s family is murdered and there’s plenty of references to Viking mythology particularly about Ragnarok, a series of events that ultimately lead to the death of specific Norse Gods.

The movie is due to be released this fall in October and a lot of excitement, as this shall be among the many games made into movie like Riddick and Hitman. But looking at the trailer a lot more is expected from this movie, just as the game it self. Check out the trailer under in HD quality.

Samsung’s SC-MX20 is YouTube-friendly

We won’t fault you for forgetting all about Samsung’s SC-MX20 — after all, it was crammed deep beneath a host of other Sammy camcorders when announced at CES earlier this year. Nevertheless, we’ve received a few more vital details about said shooter today, and aside from boasting a 680K pixel CCD sensor (720 x 480 resolution), this one also features a 34x optical zoom, Advanced Image Stabilization, face detection, an SD / SDHC card slot, a battery good for three hours, a 2.7-inch LCD monitor (on a swivel, no less) and ten automatic scene modes for extra good times. Additionally, the unit packs a special shooting mode that captures in a resolution and format perfect for YouTube, so those terrified of converting will surely be breathing a sigh of relief. Expect this one to land next month in red, white, black and blue for a very manageable $279.99.

Terry Tate: Draft Day

Felcher & Sons hire a new linebacker, Courtney Cate, to work alongside Terry in the office. At first, the two have some “initial friction” between each other, but they soon gel and begin to work more efficiently as a team, jointly dealing out the pain to the co-workers who step out of line. However, the company made the decision to relocate Cate to a European branch, due to salary cap reasons, and also because he made some errors (such as taking out an employee for wearing a Hawaiian shirt to work, not knowing it was Casual Friday). The European branch was based in Germany – some see this as a sly dig at NFL Europa‘s final line-up of teams: five German, one Dutch.

Server move

The server move is complete!. I have moved all my .no domains and my email/blog hosting to a new server due to extremely slow support from the Norwegian host I had. 4 working days just to upgrade an account and to register a few new .no domains is a bit much, even for me.

Kind of sad to leave them actually. Been with them since 1999, and never had any downtime with them, except from the scheduled maintenance 1-2 times a year for major upgrades etc, but even then the downtime was at offpeak hours and minimal.

But I have found a nice new host for my .no domains and my main work/private mail. Sofar it’s extremely fast on server response times. The support is immaculate and fast. 5-15 min in work hours, and maybe a couple of hours during evening and weekends.

I don’t often require support, but when I do, I prefer not to sit around for weeks just to get some plain answers.

Biggest trouble with moving host is my insanely large IMAP mailbox, almost 20.000 mails (I haven’t archived any for almost a year now). The size is around 300mb, and all attachments are moved to my webdisk instead. Going to do some major mail sorting this weekend and archive most of it. Then start mostly fresh with the server move. I have to re-upload lots of email to the new IMAP, but the size should be significant lower.

Terry Tate: Sensitivity Training

Office worker Paul Merkin accuses Terry Tate of assault, and in response Felcher & Sons hire Geneva Stoller, a sensitivity trainer. She gives out badges of shame to anyone who breaks office rules, and after Terry drives into a worker in his usual office role, she moves him to a desk job. As a result, office productivity declines, and Terry is forced to watch from his desk as office staff all around him fail to do any work. However, after seeing Geneva make a sexual advance on a male employee, Terry slams into her to put her back in line. The company part ways with Geneva, and Ron Felcher shows how productivity had declined since her arrival, but since her departure things had recovered once again, with the help of Terry.

Movie Reviews & Ratings

The movie industry spends millions of dollars on films, but sadly most aren’t even worth the price of cinema popcorn, despite the slick trailers and A-list stars. You might disagree with my review/rating on some movies. Should such occurrence arises more than three times, it is advisable to not use this as your movie guide in the future. It is apparent we don’t share the same taste.

Comments are open for now, but please refrain from flames if you have any disagreement.

I have moved my current list into a better archive overview. Follow the link under to check out my current progress of reviews.

The movie archive is currently under development. I have about 500 movies i need to convert from my old movie database manually

Terry Tate: Vacation

After 1000 days at work without a single day off, state law requires that Terry must take a vacation. At first he dislikes his holiday (having problems opening his room’s door with the card key, and the small towels he is forced to use), but once he begins to put the hotel staff in line (as he does with his office co-workers), he begins to enjoy himself. The hotel’s manager is pleased with Terry’s actions, saying that he is welcome back any time and has been the best guest the hotel has ever had. However, back at Felcher & Sons, many of the staff have been acting up without Terry around, but his return quickly gets the company back into shape again.
