Disable User Account Control (UAC) in Vista

Windows Vista has the built-in ability to automatically reduce the potential of security breeches in the system. It does that by automatically enabling a feature called User Account Control (or UAC for short). The UAC forces users that are part of the local administrators group to run like they were regular users with no administrative privileges.

Note: Disabling UAC will lead to a less secure system, so be warned.

  1. Open your Control Panel.
  2. Go to “User Account and Family Safety” and click on “Add of remove user accounts”. [image]
  3. Click on the user account you want to disable UAC on.
  4. Under the user account click on the “Go to the main User Accounts page” link. [image]
  5. Under “Make changes to your user account” click on the “Change security settings” link. [image]
  6. On the next screen you should uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer”, and then click on the OK button. [image]

You’ll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect, but you should be all done with annoying prompts.

In order to re-enable UAC just follow the same steps as above, but select the checkbox at step 6 and reboot.
