Norwegian firm to design WTC museum

The Norwegian architect firm Snøhetta has been awarded the project of designing the World Trade Center Museum.

The museum is a part of a new cultural center, which will be located on the lot where the Twin Towers once stood. The rest of the cultural center will be designed by Gehry Partners.

“We have been through some successful processes before, but this is extraordinary,” said Kjetil Tr?dal Thorsen at Snøhetta, to TV 2.

New York City Mayor Michael M. Bloomberg was pleased and praised the project.

“The selection of these architects has been yet another milepost in the development of lower Manhattan,” said Bloomberg in a comment at the homepages of Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the agency responsible for the development of the area.

Governor George E. Pataki is also positive.

“To build a culture center in the heart of Manhattan is a cornerstone in the development of the lower parts of downtown, and a proper tribute to the heroes we lost. These dynamic architects will design a suitable home for world class cultural institutions which will be located at the former World Trade Center,” Patak said.
